Potassium Citrate is used as an aid in the prevention of urinary stone formation by increasing urinary pH. Alkalinizing the urine pH reduces the formation of kidney stones (calcium oxalate bladder stones) that would normally occur due to high levels of calcium or uric acid in the urine. Potassium citrate is a prescription medication available as controlled release tablets and granules.
